Biography

Liz brings over 20 years experience working in the for purpose sector, in particular in community recreation space and has worked at a local, state, national and international level. Liz is currently CEO at Disability Sport and Recreation, they have a clear belief in the unique power of sport and recreation to connect and inspire people of all abilities, providing limitless possibilities. Liz is the mother of two amazing boys 14 and 12 years of age. Jordy, Liz’s 12 year old has a rare developmental disorder that impacts every part of his and the families' lives. When Jordy was diagnosed, he was one of only 400 cases in the world. Sport and recreation is the pathway Liz’s family uses to connect with community, friends and family in addition to the health and social benefits it has for her son. Liz is also a board member of Smith Magenis Syndrome Australia (the syndrome her son has). It’s a parent lead board that aims to support newly diagnosed families and raise funds for the bi-annual camp.

Dr. Baptiste Henry Bernard, a 34-year-old Sports Physician & Preventive Sports Medicine expert, is the National Record Holder in Shotput and serves as the Director of the Mauritius Sports Council. With a background in Sports Business and Management, his focus is on fostering a culture of Community Sports and Physical Activity while overseeing the maintenance of National Sports Infrastructures. Dr. Bernard's ultimate goal is to leverage sports and physical activity to promote inclusivity, sustainability, and healthier communities, driving transformative change.

The Office for Women in Sport and Recreation will share lessons from sport and active recreation organisation having gender diverse boards and what this has led to in terms of board dynamics and decision making. An important reflection on having a diverse governance ‘team’ for your organisation or project.

Biography

Rayoni is the Head of Program Strategy and Research at the Office for Women in Sport and Recreation, Rayoni leads the design and delivery of Change Our Game program and research initiatives, to level the playing field for women and girls across all roles in sport and active recreation. Rayoni has experience across the sport industry including working with State Sporting Associations, Regional Sports Assemblies, community sporting clubs and local governments and was previously Chief Executive Officer of School Sport Victoria, part of the Department of Education.
