Mike specialises in all types of sport, recreation & wellness, aquatics and elite training facilities, underpinned by excellent facility master planning skills and project management expertise. With in-depth knowledge of complex sporting facilities, he is very experienced in the redevelopment of existing facilities and the incorporation of environmentally sustainable design. Mike’s projects have achieved recognition with awards for excellence in Australia and internationally. As CO.OP Studio’s Sport & Rec sector lead, he is currently working on sports and leisure projects across Australia, from grass roots community facilities to elite level training and event venues. With a calm, direct approach; his understated delivery belies Mike’s passion for excellence in design.

Embracing health and social outcomes in the design and management of future centres
Biography
Ian and his partners restructured their large commercial practice about 20 years ago to focus on producing high quality
public buildings for Community and Civic clients.
Since making that change they have won important design awards for their work in Queensland, NSW Victoria and New
Zealand.
They pioneered their approach which leans heavily on stakeholder involvement in the design of Theatres, Libraries and
large Community projects. Since 2016 they have adapted the same enthusiastic methodology to the design of large
sporting and recreation projects.
The BHA team drives their work to respond to Community needs and incorporate Worlds best practice outcomes,
producing environments for positive social, physical and mental health outcomes.
At present Ian’s team is designing 3 large Indoor Sports Centres, 6 Aquatic Centres, 2 regional stadium and a number of
large sporting precincts.

Climate change and sustainability - For future thinking
Biography
Theodore is one of the founding directors of k20 Architecture with over 20 years’ experience designing community-sensitive, sustainable buildings for local governments.
Theodore’s remarkable projects include the redevelopment of the Ballarat Regional Soccer Facility and the Williamstown Town Hall. He also played a significant role in the community consultation process for the Betty Day Community Centre, the first building completed for the City of Port Phillip utilising the Sustainability Design Scorecard.
Theodore led projects from scoping & feasibility, design, documentation, and coordination to completion. He designs innovative ESD-based architecture and strives for and exceeded 100% client satisfaction on every project.

Biography
Andrew Tripet is National Sector Lead of NBRS’ Community sector, working across a diverse range of project typologies including sporting and aquatic facilities, libraries and galleries, performing arts centres and community facilities. Andrew is passionate about creating beautifully crafted architecture that enriches the lives of the people who occupy it. His expertise is underpinned by a commitment to research and a belief that every design should be contextualised by the unique characteristics of the site and client requirements. With a focus on creating dynamic sustainable buildings that are inviting and serve the community, Andrew believes that architecture can play a transformative role and has the ability to spark wider regeneration.
