Should we be linking children’s Physical Activity, Play and Sport with coaching and pathway programs at a young age, exploring the importance of teaching and nourishing physical literacy as opposed to specialising in sport skills. Developing a pragmatic approach to connecting both aspects and at what age. 15-minute presentations with remaining time for Q+A.

Biography

Dr Amanda Lloyd has extensive experience teaching, researching, and adventuring outdoors. She is currently the Nature Play Development Manager at Greater Sydney Parklands. Amanda completed a PhD focused on the advantages of outdoor learning for Primary School students. She has worked in advocacy, management, written for a variety of publications and made many cubby houses along the way. Her primary interests are curriculum, wellbeing, resilience, nature connection and the development of physical literacy in an outdoor environment. You will often find her outside bushwalking and playing in the mud with her 3-year-old.

Biography

Aidan has worked in the fields of Sport, Play and Community Development for over 10 years, most of his roles have centred on designing and delivering projects focused on increasing participation in Sport and Physical Activity, in both mainstream and special education settings. Aidan also delivers education and training highlighting the importance of physical activity, play and sport for children and young people’s holistic development. He holds a Bs Hons degree in Sports Coaching & is currently completing a Master’s degree researching the links between Physical Activity, Play and Sport (PAPS Project). In his free time, Aidan is a sports coach and has a passion for youth sports development. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two boys.
