The World Health Organisation (WHO) is committed to supporting global mega-events such as the FIFA World Cups and the Olympic/Paralympic Games to promote the benefits of physical activity. Exploring transformational systems planning and activation strategy, what this really means for the ‘Legacy’ of such events to normalise physical activity for communities to become more active. What is needed to change behaviours, from improved social housing, accessibility to community services and a joined-up agenda to name a few.

Biography

Tim is Chief Executive of Sport England, the agency responsible for delivering sport and physical activity at grassroots and community level across England. He has held the role since November 2018. For seven years prior to this, Tim was Chief Executive at the British Paralympic Association, the National Paralympic Committee for the United Kingdom, serving as Secretary General for ParalympicsGB at four Paralympic Games Before that, Tim was first Director of Policy & Communications and then Chief Operating Officer at UK Sport. Previously, Tim worked as Director of a strategic communications consultancy, HBL Media, as well as in other senior business roles. He is a Trustee of the Football Foundation and member of the International Paralympic Committee’s Paralympic Games Committee.

Biography

Full Tenured Professor (Catedrático) of Exercise Science & Health at King Juan Carlos University, Centre for Sports Studies, Head of THiNKactive (EuropeActive´s new Research Centre) and Director of the National Observatory of Fundación España Activa. Alfonso is also an elected member of the Board of Directors of EuropeActive (Ethics and Strategy Committees), member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the ukactive Research Institute (where he served as Founding Director); and Chief Research and Innovation Officer at GO fit, heading the so-called GO fit LAB as PI. He is serving as Visiting Professor at the Universities of Victoria (Melbourne, Australia), Sheffield Hallam (Sheffield, UK), Coventry (Coventry, UK) and Greenwich (London, UK).

Biography

Raelene is the Group Chief Executive of Sport New Zealand and High-Performance Sport New Zealand. She joined the organisation at the end of 2020 after seven years in Australia. There she held Chief Executive roles at Rugby Australia and Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs Rugby League Club. Raelene was honoured for her contribution to business and sport in 2015 with an ONZM.
