Biography

James is the Chief of Community Engagement at the Australian Olympic Committee. It’s an exciting time for the Olympic movement in Australia, being one year out from Paris 2024 and the countdown has started for our next home Games of Brisbane 2032. James is responsible for directing the AOC’s community engagement initiatives, including national education programs, engaging Olympians with communities to share their stories, the AOC’s approach for Indigenous reconciliation through sport, and Legacy planning for Brisbane 2032 with an aim to increase participation in Olympic sports. James has enjoyed over 15 years at the AOC in numerous roles with community engagement, Olympic teams, athlete services, the national team appeal, along with advocacy and stakeholder management. James’ background is in sports management, events, sponsorship and working with athletes.

Positive youth development through sport

Biography

Brad is Chief Executive Officer of Creating Chances, Australia's first Social Enterprise using sport as the vehicle drive social outcomes for young people. Launched in 2014, as a collaboration between Football United and Rugby Youth Foundation, Creating Chances growth has been exponential with programs now operating in over 120 schools and communities across New South Wales including Metropolitan Sydney, Central Coast, Lake Macquarie, Illawarra, Armidale, Sunraysia and Frankston in Victoria. Creating Chances implements a sophisticated outcomes and evidence based youth development pathway for thousands of students from primary schools through to leaving high school. transitioning through the pathway equips young people with employment skills while enabling them to be ready to contribute positively to society. Brad is also the High Performance Manager of the NSW Sports High School Association. This role has been instrumental in the formation of the association and advising the 7 member schools especially in the areas of Sporting organisation partnerships. In the past 4 years the SHSA has developed partnerships with a range of National and State Sporting bodies as well as the Australian Sports Commission and the Australian Olympic Committee. Brad has experience in both the corporate and community sectors, previously heading up Macquarie Bank Sports and prior to that developing a National Education Program within the Community Rugby Division at Australian Rugby Union (ARU). Brad has also lectured in Sports Management at the University of Technology Sydney, Australian Catholic University and Australian College of Physical Education.

Principals focus on balancing sport, curriculum, health and wellness of the students

Biography

Fiona is entering her 25th year in education and her 6th year as Principal of Western Heights Secondary College in Geelong Victoria. With a strong belief in the benefit of physical literacy in curriculum, health and wellness for young people, Fiona has led and established a unique aspiring athlete development program and specialist sports program in her school. Launched in 2020, during a pandemic, the enrolment of students in the program has quickly risen to 400 students in 2023. The program has supported the development of not only improved outcomes for students' physical health and wellbeing within the program, but most importantly provided a significant boost to the development of whole school pride and positive connection with the local school and wider community.
