As society changes so does our aquatic needs, a debate to explore does or should the 50m pool fit into the new order of community leisure facilities or should we be planning for more leisure and health water facilities and reduce the number of new 50m pools, by investing in water spaces that will both appeal and provide greater value to the broader community. This session will debate opinions and rational on both sides, with the audience voting at the end of the session 5 mins each and remaining Q&A.

Biography

Joanne Love is the President of Swim Coaches and Teacher Australia. She is an Australian Gold Performance Swim Coach as well as other qualifications, including PsychScB(Psy) GradDipPsychAdv. As an elite swimming coach she had many National and International team representatives. Joanne represented Australia as a swimming coach at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics and has coached several Olympic Medallists and World Record Holders. Joanne also owns a successful Swim School, Learn to Swim Victoria. In addition to her swimming career, Joanne works with elite sporting organisations imparting a wealth of information on how psychology and neuroscience can create successful outcomes in Australia and internationally.

BlueFit has always pushed digital and operational efficiencies through many industry leading projects. Passionate about the industry, Todd is an advocate for smarter community recreation design driven by demand rather than politics. BlueFit serves many communities with a strong hands-on team of 2,000+.

Biography

Nadine’s extensive leadership experience includes leading teams in the recreation industry for over 25 years. During this time, she has have helped shape the careers of current and future leaders in the Y and within the wider fitness and recreation industry. Nadine has also shared this experience, learnings and successes with the broader industry presenting at numerous fitness business events. Nadine has lead teams in commercial health clubs, council run facilities and a wide variety of YMCA managed facilities. Nadine’s previous role to that of Regional Executive Manager of Recreation was The Ys Area Manager of the Active Merri-bek (Formally Moreland) facilities, her portfolio consisted of over 600 staff, 8000 members and 6 Aquatic and Leisure facilities, 5 with a variety of outdoor pools, 4 of which consisted of 50 metre pools that are very much loved by the local diverse community.

Biography

As General Manager of Operations, Simon oversees the company’s operations and leads the development of operational systems and plans. Simon has more than 18 years of leisure management experience with a demonstrated talent for successfully navigating the complexities of transitioning new contracts whilst improving operational and business performance, most recently Simon lead and managed the successful opening of the $70m Bay Pavilions Leisure and Arts Precinct in Batemans Bay. Simon is a highly committed and energetic professional, who is passionate about shaping the future of the leisure industry. Known for his ability to build high performance teams and drive team culture, Simon’s visible leadership and hands-on approach has consistently seen the delivery of superior team and business results throughout his career.
