Setting the scene: informal sport as a health and social resource amongst young people

Biography

Ruth is a Professor and Head of the School of Curriculum, Teaching and Inclusive Education at Monash University. Ruth is a sociologist whose research interests focus on the use of sport and active recreation as a community development resource, particularly to address social exclusion amongst acutely marginalised groups. She is currently the lead investigator for the Informal Sport as a Health and Social Resource project funded by the Australian Research Council.

Engaging young people in Football as a vehicle for social impact

Biography

Sunil has worked across elite sport and major events such as the ICC T20 World Cup 2020, the AFL and currently with A- League Premiers Melbourne City FC. Specialising in Communications, Community and Stakeholder Engagement, he is passionate about how sport can make an impact off the field, as much as on it. Leading the club’s award-winning charitable arm City in The Community, Sunil sees the effect the world game can have on communities and particularly young people, using it as a tool for settlement, growth and connection.
